Nanotechnology

The field of nanotechnology is the characterization and manipulation of matter on the near to atomic scale. These manipulations give rise to new material properties, structures and devices.

Nanomaterials are said to be between the range of 1 to 100 nanomters

For reference a nanometer (nm) is 1 x 10-9 meters. A human hair varies between 20 to 180 micrometers ( 1 x 10-6 meters ) thick, that means you could fit 180,000 nm on one hair. Its so small, that only in the late 1970s were we able to develop tools to be able to visually inspect these nanomaterials.

Bio-engineering and nanotechnology have become a popular combination of fields, many papers being published investments interested in the findings research and development. Most popular being biotechnology collaborating with nanotechnology areas of study to produce new devices, particles and materials. Having added value to variety of sectors in the recent years namely semiconductor manufacturing and clinical advancements.
